Submerged.

The water feels dense today.
My hands come to prayer over my heart before shooting outwards in front of me, around me, back into me, towards my chest – creating a circle of swirling energy, propelling me forward.

My legs come to Goddess pose, for just a moment, before pushing outwards into the space that surrounds me – a powerful motion of expanding the boundaries of my Being. Yes, I take up this much space. And yes, it’s beautiful to be large and expanding.
Breathe.

Bubbles – two – three – four.

Breathe.

Bubbles – two – three – four.

The breast stroke.
My favourite stroke by far, my default, my solace, my ritual movement within the Water Realm.
And though I’ve swam in oceans around the world it’s within this public pool, here in my hometown, that I’m currently feeling most alive.
I jumped in the fast lane and the man I’m sharing the space with is keeping me to my commitment – I push forward to maintain my pace.

Breathe.

Bubbles – two – three – four.

Breathe.

Bubbles – two – three – four.

I feel the resistance of the water. It feels so dense today.
I take note of my power, observing that my body just keeps swimming, despite my mental fatigue. These arms keep making circles, these legs keep launching me onwards and before I know it I’ve swam far more than my target in kilometres. Somehow, within the flow of water, my mind relinquished it’s need to interrupt, to analyze, to assess. Somehow, within that space of rhythm, breath and bubbles, my mind shut off and finally allowed my body to expand into Her greatness.

I finish my current lap and raise myself up onto the pool deck; my arms are sore yet I only notice their tingle once I’m out of the water. I sit at the end of the lane, cross legged. My heart is beating fast and my breath is still quick and fluid. I sink deep into Ujayi breathing – in and out through the nose, the oceanic noise audible to only me. I close my eyes and feel the pulsation all around and within me. Within this heightened awareness, the water that drops from my hair, eyelashes and nose feels heavy, powerful, potent. I put my hand over my heart and say a prayer of gratitude for my healthy body before slipping back into the sweet, blue water.
The resistance hits me once again and my muscles spring to action, they know what to do and where to go. My mind is empty – silence.

Water is my element and it’s here that I feel at home.

Breathe.

Bubbles – two – three – four.

Breathe.

Bubbles – two – three – four.

My mind jumps in again ::
“It’s the resistance that keeps me going, it’s the gentle push against me that engages my determination. It’s within this density that I grow and strengthen. It’s within this challenge that I learn to flow with Spirit.”

Heart leading me on I flow, I go, I grow.
